Scouts have many opportunities over the years to be in a leadership position. Troop 58 is a "boy led" troop, which means that the scouts have supervised leadership and lead and run all trips and meetings. In order for a scout to become independent he must be able to work with and lead a team of peers, without undue interference from adults. The leadership positions are:

Other Leadership Positions:

These may be appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with the concurrence of the Patrol Leader's Council and the approval of the Scoutmaster, or may be elected by the whole troop. Positions consist of the following: Quartermaster, Chaplain's Aide, Scribe, Librarian, & Historian.

Scribe: Keeps a log of Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, attendance and dues payments, & troop advancement.

Quartermaster: Keeps and checks out troop equipment. Sees that it is returned in good condition or repaired. Helps in acquisition of new equipment.

Historian: Keeps scrapbooks and display keepsakes. Takes pictures of events and collects newspaper articles. Keeps a journal of all Scouting Events. Issues a blog for each trip.

Librarian: Keeps records on the troop literature. Checks out and follows up on the return of materials. Helps secure new material for the troop library.

Chaplain's Aide: Helps with religious activities of the troop and helps in troop planning to consider religious activities and holidays of which the troop should be aware.
